What to Expect From Virtual Dentistry

Since the COVID-19 pandemic has started, many businesses and industries are trying to take things virtual. This includes the dental industry. Even though things are starting to open back up in many areas of the country, virtual dentistry is here to stay. Dr. Frank Henrich, a dentist in Tulsa, OK, explains virtual dentistry and why it may be a good choice for you.

What is Virtual Dentistry?

Virtual dentistry is also commonly known as teledentistry. It’s a way to have a dental appointment and get advice from your dentist in the comfort of your own home. We use a secure software called doxy.me to do our teledentistry video calls. You’re able to access it from your smartphone, laptop, tablet, or desktop computer.

The Benefits of doxy.me

Doxy.me is HIPAA-approved software and doesn’t save your data, meaning that you’re free to talk about your dental and medical problems without worry. It’s easy to use and doesn’t require you to make an account or anything. When it’s time for your virtual appointment, you’ll simply click the link in the invite you received from Dr. Henrich. This takes you to the virtual waiting room until the dentist enters the call as well.

This software is also completely free for you to use! As with a normal dental consultation, a fee for your dentist will be discussed with him. This fee can be submitted to your dental insurance to see if it’s covered by your benefits.

Why Use Virtual Dentistry?

This is convenient for a variety of reasons. With COVID-19, it’s understandable that some patients, especially those that are high-risk, may not feel comfortable going to the office for treatment quite yet. It’s also a more convenient option if you have a busy schedule and are having trouble finding a time that’s ideal for an appointment in the office.

Virtual dentistry is also often used if you’re looking to get a second opinion for a dental problem. If you want a consult or opinion about a dental issue you’re having or a restorative or cosmetic procedure, virtual dentistry is an option before you actually go into the office. If you’re sick currently, you can still get an opinion for dental care.

With teledentistry, Dr. Henrich will give you his opinion on the issue you’re bringing to the table. He’ll determine if he thinks you should come in for an in-office appointment to take care of the problem you’re struggling with. Virtual dentistry can also be used for a follow-up appointment to ensure you’re not suffering from any harmful side effects and the treatment is working the way it’s supposed to.

TMJ-Specific Virtual Consultations

Dr. Henrich has completed specific training in the treatment of TMJ disorders and problems with the jaw. Virtual consultations have been a quality addition to his TMJ treatment program. With teledentistry, you can explain the pain you’re having in your jaw, as well as other problems that may come with TMJ, like chipped teeth. He can discuss treatment options with you that you may be able to try at home!
